Chinese Dwarf Bamboo

"We purchased 5 x 200mm pots of Chinese Dwarf bamboo and planted them in our raised garden bed in October. We followed the planting guide and added mushroom compost mixed through the original soil, we watered every day during the sweltering summer and fertilised with our bamboo blend fertiliser every 3 months. After only FIVE months, we are pretty happy with the results!!" (Note how little the plants on the left hand side have grown in comparison!)

Gracilis Bamboo

"Our Gracilis started out as very small 200mm pots which Grant thought would never survive let alone thrive to this degree! He estimates them to be about 5mtrs already with about 50 culms. It just goes to show that good ground preparation is the key! We have had the bamboo planted in the ground for about 18 months and they have grown so much!"

“Attached are photos 12 months apart of the bamboo and other plants I bought from you.

The garden has grown so fast, such an amazing outcome in a short time. A special thanks to Dee for her expert knowledge and help with the choices and outcome of our project.”

Goldstripe Bamboo

"I purchased some bamboo around 8 months ago for my investment property at Broadbeach. I wanted to screen the neighbours ugly property fast! I was given a great deal for my budget and happily went off to start planting. I can't believe how much they have grown in just 8 months! The staff at Bamboo Down Under were fantastic to deal with. I often go back to visit just to wander around the bamboo forests. I love it there."

Gracilis Bamboo

This Gracilis screen was planted in July, following the planting guide and by the

next February they were fully screening out the double storey neighbours! It is the

perfect bamboo for this situation where double story height is needed and also so

that the retainer wall or sun blind by the house is not affected!

Chinese Dwarf Bamboo

'I had a very small garden area at our front fence and had no idea what to plant! We heard the ad on 4BC for quick growing non-invasive bamboo so we went to Bamboo Down Under. The lady was very helpful and we purchased 1 x 300mm Chinese Dwarf. In just 12 months it has been lightly trimmed and regularly watered. We are so happy we bought another for a similar garden bed!'

Gracilis Bamboo

These beautiful Gracilis were planted 18 months ago, following the planting guide. Grown in garden beds of roughly 80cm wide, and planted a wide 2-2.5mtrs apart for a sparse individual clumping effect. A garden effect as apposed to a dense wall of screening was desired here. They naturally grow a little wider at the tops with the extra space and no competition. The lower

branches have been removed for a clean modern effect. - Jim

Malay Dwarf Variegated Bamboo

'These bamboos were planted carefully following the planting guide and advice from the ladies at BDU. I had clay soil and on a hill so I needed to make sure they would grow. They were about 1.5mtrs tall but very spindly when planted. I watered them well for about 3 months, then rarely after that! They grew so fast and filled out so bushy within 9 months. I trimmed them shorter once to encourage bushiness. I can't wait to see how big they grow in their second year!!' - Adam

Malay Dwarf Variegated Bamboo

'These bamboos were planted carefully following the planting guide and advice from the ladies at BDU. I had clay soil and on a hill so I needed to make sure the soil was healthy enough for them. They were 300mm pots and I watered them well for about 3 months, then rarely after that! They grew so fast and filled out within 9 months. I trimmed them shorter once to encourage bushiness. I can't wait to see how big they grow in their second year!!'

Goldstripe & Gracilis Bamboo

When we bought a property, the house next door was very exposed and afforded no privacy. After visiting and getting excellent advice, we settled on 2 planting areas to suit the natural rise of the land and to fit our veggie patch. We followed the planting guide and planted the bamboos at 600mm spacing’s. They had trickle irrigation to ensure they remained moist & were given regular soakings by hand as well as fertilising every 3 months. 1 year on, we only give them a good soaking after dry periods. In only 12 months, the Gracilis has a height of over 5 metres and has provided an excellent screen to our neighbours’ property, even from our top deck. The Gold Stripe is over 4 metres high, again providing an excellent screen. - Don & Karen

Timor Black Bamboo

This single 200mm pot of bamboo was planted in January and just two years later, the results are incredible! It was planted in a 2m wide hole with lots of soil preparation; forming an ideal position for the beautiful bamboo to flourish. This Timor Black is still growing to its full size and could be trimmed down in height, or trimmed out to expose the coloured culms.

Gracilis Bamboo

"We were advised by many people to only buy from a reputable bamboo specialist. We went out to view Bamboo Down Under's stock and lovely grounds, and the staff were REALLY HELPFUL. We planted the Gracilis in December, strictly following the planting guide instructions, and literally watched them grow. We are located in Ipswich, the plants face the full western sun & get beaten around with wind and frost. They are so resilient & easy to care for, and they have blocked our horrid view!" The after photo is taken in November two years later.

Boniopsis Bamboo

"We needed a new fence put in which meant a whole lot of unsightly metal fencing in our outdoor area. A trip to BDU got us talking to one of your staff members and resulted in a few pots of Boniopsis being placed in our car! With organic soil, doses of bamboo pellet fertiliser and seasol, our whole outdoor area has been transformed into a lush, relaxing environment with little sign of the existing colorbond fence behind it! It has also created a great screen to keep the neighbours hidden! We love how quickly it grew and how easy it is to care for.  It is still thriving after 2 years since planting with very little attention from us."

Timor Black Bamboo

Our customer here was determined to have a SHORT black bamboo screen! So they planted Timor Black very close together around 1mtr apart per clump in a 1.5mtr wide garden bed. They trimmed each stem down to approx 2.5mtrs high. Once cut, the stems remain at that height and also bush up denser and lusher. This provides a more effective screen then the usual sparse Timor effect when Timor is at full size.

Planting something like this is an ornamental high-maintenance option for bamboo screening. If you have the width, the time and patience you too can achieve this look.

China Gold Bamboo

This beautiful ornamental bamboo screen is made from China Gold bamboo. Left to grow to its natural state, China Gold is quite a tall and wide bamboo. However it is able to be planted in narrow areas and thinned out to produced this modern effect. Our customers here have planted in a roughly 500mm wide garden bed, planting the China Gold very close together at 500mm spacings to achieve a full look. All of the lower branches and foliage is removed to feature the colourful culms and the height is trimmed down. The top then bushes up nice and neat to form screening above the fence height. This is a very ornamental, but high maintenance option. It will take effort to manicure this look! You can also achieve this look with Gracilis bamboo for a lush green screen with less maintenance.

Ghost Bamboo & Timor Black Bamboo

Check out this amazing blend of the colourful ornamental bamboos. Planting the alternate black stems and white stems forms a very unique feature screen. This photo was taken around 2 years into the growth and the bamboo will continue to establish over the following 2 years to mature into a fully grown state. Planted roughly 3mtrs apart from the centre of the clumps allows each bamboo to form a natural canopy vase shape. Removing all the lower branches and foliage features the colourful culms and encourages the bamboo to thicken up top where the privacy screening is needed. This customer of ours wanted the bamboo to remain in a 1mtr wide garden bed so put in a root barrier to stop their size in growth. They are both clumping bamboo however without a root barrier would have grown to their maximum footprint of approx 2mtrs wide.
