(Bambusa multiplex 'Alphonse Karr')

Alphonse Karr is a small golden bamboo perfect as an ornamental feature or a light privacy screen in garden beds or pots and troughs. It has beautiful green and gold striped culms with attractive bushy green foliage. Alphonse Karr will naturally grow between 3-4mtrs in height and can be easily trimmed down in height if need be (read maintenance tips here).

It has naturally vase shaped growth, narrow at the base and a fan at the top. The new shoots emerge as a pretty pink/reddish colour that fade to gold over a few months. The natural footprint size of the clump is 1mtr however this wonderful species can be planted into narrow garden beds or maintained smaller to suit your needs, down to a minimum of 50cm. It can be ornamental or a light privacy screen. Alphonse Karr thrives in cooler climates and can be prone to sooty mould in humid conditions.

 

Clumping bamboo grow circular, so plant them the same distance apart as the width you have available. Eg. if your planting trench is 80cm wide, you would plant them 80cm apart to form a dense screen. The narrower the space, the closer you plant the bamboo together. For more information, talk to one of our helpful and knowledgable staff members for professional advice on your garden circumstances. Alphonse Karr is extremely quick growing and can be fully grown within 18-24 months, or quicker if you purchase more established sizes! Alphonse Karr is low maintenance & drought tolerant once established.

 The sizing of plants does vary, particularly through different seasons of the year.

The most valuable part of the bamboo is the rootball size within the pots, which produces incredibly fast growth once planted.
