BARBELLETTA

SMALLER ORNAMENTAL
BLUE BAMBOO

(Bambusa chungii 'Barbelletta')

Barbelletta bamboo is a beautiful ornamental bamboo featuring powdery blue/ white culms. Barbelletta bamboo will naturally grow up to 6-8 metres in height and can be easily trimmed down in height if need be (read maintenance tips here). Barbelletta is the smaller version of 'Chungii' blue bamboo, and tends to have a prettier bushier foliage effect.

It has a natural vase shaped habit, with an almost bowl shaped base. The culms tend to grow outward on an angle before shooting up toward the sky. This makes for a nice feature clump, and tends to create a wider screening effect. The natural footprint size of the clump is 1.5mtrs but this can be reduced with planting closer together for a grove or screening. This wonderful species can be planted into narrower garden beds or maintained smaller to suit your needs, down to a minimum of 1mtr, but please note it is still a big bamboo and cannot be compared to the narrowness of a Gracilis screening bamboo for example. Plant as a single feature or a dense screening solution.

Clumping bamboo grow circular, so plant them the same distance apart as the width you have available. Eg. if your planting trench is 1mtr wide, you would plant them 1mtr apart to form a dense screen, though the plant itself would bush out wider then the allowed 1mtr wide garden bed. The narrower the space, the closer you plant the bamboo together. For more information, talk to one of our helpful and knowledgable staff members for professional advice on your garden circumstances. Different circumstances have different solutions!

Barbelletta bamboo is incredibly quick growing, and can be fully grown in 2-3 years if established well. Or achieve quicker growth if you purchase more established sizes! It is low maintenance and extremely drought tolerant once established.

Follow our bamboo planting guide (provided with your purchase) to achieve the best results. The guides are helpful and easy to follow, and assist you in achieving the best results in the shortest amount of time. Most of the effort in growing your bamboos is preparation and the first few months after planting.

The approximate size of bamboo is only a guide. Plant measurements are taken from the bottom of the pot.
The sizing of plants does vary, particularly through different seasons of the year.

The most valuable part of the bamboo is the rootball size within the pots, which produces incredibly fast growth once planted.
