A common request for a landscapers design brief is that the garden should contain a hedge. The reasons vary, but one of the most common being to block out the neighbours.
This is where clumping bamboo comes in. It is fast becoming the most popular choice for anyone wanting to enjoy a "Hedge in a Hurry" or just have their gardens stand out from the crowd.
Bamboo is a very unique and often misunderstood plant. Many people still have the idea that bamboo is invasive when the simple matter is that people just don’t understand the difference between running and clumping bamboo.
Unlike running bamboo, clumping bamboo will only grow into a single clump of a certain size, depending on the variety, and can reach maturity in 3-5 years. Clumping bamboo has shallow, fine, fibrous root and really has less root material than most common garden plants - making it a problem solving not a problem causing plant.
Clumping bamboo has many great benefits and comes in many different varieties. Bamboo Down Under’s most popular seller is Gracilis (Bambusa textilis gracilis). The great thing about Gracilis and many other clumping bamboos, it that it can be grown in garden beds as narrow as 500mm, grows up right, very tight clumping, fast growing and will fit well into all types of gardens. Customers can achieved complete block out within 18 months.
Another great feature of bamboo is that it has no common pests and disease and is virtually maintenance free. Bamboo is a lazy gardeners plant.
Bamboo is also very versatile. It can be trimmed, hedged and sculptured to whatever look you are after. There is a bamboo to suit just about any situation.
