Malay Dwarf (Bambusa heterostachya) is a clumping bamboo that grows to roughly 6-8mtrs in height. It grows in a dense vase shape with a smaller base, with larger top and has large green leaves. Malay Dwarf is a fast growing, hardy bamboo, and can achieve a privacy screen in under 24 months! Provided you follow our Bamboo Planting Guide with soil preparation and care.
Uses: Malay Dwarf is a great privacy screen when the room allows - it is not a narrow bamboo. It is fantastic for larger blocks or acreage.
Planting: Malay Dwarf has a roughly 1.5m round circular clump when fully grown, but can bush out to a full 3-4m in foliage at the top. For a dense screen with low maintenence, plant your Malay Dwarf 1.5m apart. If you are planting along a fence, come out a minimum of 1m to allow the natural clump size to grow. Malay Dwarf can be grown in full sun to part shade. Follow our Bamboo Planting Guide given at the time of purchase for recommendations on the best soil preparation and care for your bamboo to achieve the quickest and best results.
