Khasia (Drepanostachyum khasianum) grows to around 3-4mtrs in height and has a very pretty weeping habit, with fine leaves and a petite form. The distinct white and purple rings around the internode are a pretty feature of the slender culms. This species would prefer some shade in the warmer climates of Australia, but would be fine in full sun in cooler areas.
Uses: Khasia is definitely a feature bamboo in softer, lush gardens. It is great for underplanting to create a garden effect. It looks particularly lovely combined with bali huts or the like.
Planting: Khasia has a natural base size of 1m wide but fans out with arching culms, so allow for a 3m span of foliage. Plant at 1m spacings for a screen. Follow our Bamboo Planting Guide given at the time of purchase for recommendations on the best soil preparation and care for your bamboo to achieve the quickest and best results.
