Gracilis Bambusa textiles gracilis is our most popular bamboo. It the BEST bamboo available to block out unwanted views, nosey neighbours or unsightly buildings - as it is one of the fastest growing, lowest maintenance screening bamboos, and is very drought tolerant and low maintenance once established. It is the only clumping bamboo that can block out a two story building window (6-8mtrs of height) within a narrow garden bed - and it can do it in under 18 months! Gracilis has a very upright growing habit and will grow between 2 houses and against a fence neatly without taking up up a lot of air space. Gracilis can be trimmed very easily to any height (see second photo of a 2m trimmed Gracilis hedge planted in a 50cm wide garden bed). Gracilis has a lovely classic bamboo look to it, graceful, pretty and uniformly erect - Gracilis literally means slender and graceful in latin. Check out our testimonials page for great before and after pictures.

Uses: Gracilis is the BEST CHOICE for privacy screens - and is the perfect bamboo to be grown in very narrow garden beds of 40cm wide or in troughs or pots, but is ideally planted in a space of 1m wide for its natural base size. This magnificent bamboo solves many common garden dilemmas without needing much space or maintenance! It also looks great as a feature specimen into a sub-tropical or tropical garden and it blends in well with native garden plants. Gracilis is both hardy and drought resistant and a must have in your garden.

Planting: It is best to plant Gracilis at 1mtr intervals when you have a 1m wide garden bed to work with, or for denser effect you can plant closer at around 75cm intervals. For narrow garden beds, you must plant Gracilis at 50cm intervals to achieve a privacy screen. It can be grown in pots or troughs for those who don't have ground space available. It can handle full sun to part shade. Follow our Bamboo Planting Guide given at the time of purchase for recommendations on the best soil preparation and care for your bamboo to achieve the quickest and best results. For INSTANT PRIVACY, plant mature clumps of Gracilis, in pots 400mm or larger. For any novice gardener, Gracilis is a low maintenance, easy plant to grow.
