Black Asper (Dendrocalamus asper cv hitam) is the worlds largest black bamboo, growing to around 15mtrs in height in Australia and taller in other countries. It produces spectacular large dusty black culms with dark green foliage. The culms can grow in a beautiful arching fashion in different directions to create a artful look.
Uses: Black Asper is a great bamboo for arts and crafts as it has very strong culms. It is a fantastic feature in any garden provided you have the room for it to grow out.
Planting: To plant Black Asper out allow a base size of 2m x 2m at the most. It is best grown in full sun to part shade. It is very drought tolerant once established but would benefit from the occasional cleaning out of older, faded stems. Follow our Bamboo Planting Guide given at the time of purchase for recommendations on the best soil preparation and care for your bamboo to achieve the quickest and best results.
